THE ISLES WIND-FARM
In July 2011 E.ON confirmed the rumours that had been circulating for some time and formally announced that they intend to build a wind farm on a site that they refer to as The Isles. The site covers an area of just under 12 square kilometres and will affect people living in the areas around Newton Aycliffe, Woodham, Chilton, Bradbury, Mordon and Sedgefield.
THIS IS POTENTIALLY THE LARGEST WINDFARM IN ENGLAND.
This web site has been set up to make sure that all those affected by these proposals can access all the information that they need to make a decision on whether they support this scheme or not.
E-ON have had a lot of success in getting permission to build turbines, particularly in County Durham. Their operation is professional, slick and convincing. It is hoped that this website will give you the information which may not be so apparent in the E-ON brochures and presentations. We do not have press relations experts or the money to set up a big marketing campaign. We are local residents who would like to hear your feedback and welcome your input, either via the blog, signing the petition or downloading the letter of objection.
Everyone has the right to make up their own mind about the Isles wind farm but everyone also has the right to be given all the information they need to make that decision.
The intention is to update the site on a regular basis to keep you informed of events that you may wish to attend and also to let you know of any other developments as they happen.
Please register your interest and let us know what you think.
Why I am opposed to Eon’s proposal for a 7.5sq mile wind farm hosting between 25 and 45 wind turbines at the Isles. (Clink link to read)
By Phil Wilson, MP for Sedgefield
‘The Isles’ wind farm is of national significance. In the past, wind farms have been located ‘out of sight, out of mind’. ‘The Isles’ is a huge development next to a major town. If ‘The Isles’ gets the go-ahead, and the principle is established, every householder in Britain needs to consider the prospect of having dozens of wind turbines churning away at the bottom of his garden.
